Hey guys, I am officially back! I am downloading or better said upgrading to 10.10 Ubuntu right now, about 30 minutes left. So once it is complete I will test it out and let you all know! Wally A Wallpaper Changer for Linux!

Not only can Wally work with Linux, but it does work cross-platform with Windows and Macs as well which is the why it caught our attention. It is built around the Nokia QT4 framework and supports a whole lot of imagery sources most importantly your local folders but support for popular websites like Flickr, Yahoo, Bing, and Photobucket to name a few. There is an option in the settings section of the program to simply edit which one you want to use to host photos.

You can change the time delays from picture to picture to which types of photos to search for through the websites you specify. Wally is free and open source, and pre-compiled downloads are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux which makes it a big Everything Linux CHOICE, now go get it!!!

Boxee Stepping Out of Alpha To Beta in December!

The Media Center application Boxee is officially releasing a BETA version on December 7th, 2009. This is not a historic day because people have been using Boxee for their media center needs for a couple of years now, mainly gaining interest by allowing the types of Hulu and Joost streamed straight to people’s televisions for viewing pleasure. You could even access audio and video podcasts. As well as media stored locally. There were some hiccups here and there, mostly patches by Hulu not allowing Boxee to stream their media from time to time.

The complete and absolute awesomeness about Boxee was the support for Linux, Windows, and even Mac computers. Who cares about the last 2 anyways?! hahaha only kidding, but really… :p The new version will have a new user interface, improved navigation, a user-controlled queue, and a new TV and movie search function among other changes. Lets hear it for Boxee for giving us what we like, and we here at Everything Linux give this a MUST SEE!

Ubuntu starting to charge for shipping what used to be "free cds"

Ubuntu is one of the most popular distros of Linux, some can say it is the most popular OS used by millions. On Thursday the new version 9.10 will be released by Canonical, the most recent release. For many years people were able to receive a free copy of Ubuntu by Canonical sending copies to future Ubuntu users destinations. As the distro has become more and more popular, more and more people have requested free cds while Canonical would pick up the tab. Well the time has come and Canonical has put an end to repeat customers, only allowing people who are new to the Operating System and sign up via their website. This meaning Canonical is watching you from now on and won’t send you anymore free cds, they now encourage you to update via downloading software updates or now PURCHASING copies via their online store. What else are they going to start charging us for?! We at Everything Linux want to hear your remarks…

Unknown Horizons – Fun Open Source PC Game

A fun RTS (real-time strategy) game called Unknown Horizons looks just like your everyday Civilization series or Rome series PC game. To be honest it is just as good of a time waster, as any. It being an Open Source, many will be greatly surprised that it plays very well and smooth without many hiccups. Before you know it, you will look down at your watch and find out a couple of hours have passed without hesitation. We at Everything Linux say this is a must for a true Open Source fan!

Here is a little info about the game from the producers themselves: “Unknown Horizons is a 2D realtime strategy simulation with an emphasis on economy and city building. Expand your small settlement to a strong and wealthy colony, collect taxes and supply your inhabitants with valuable goods. Increase your power with a well balanced economy and with strategic trade and diplomacy.“

If you didn’t know already but Android is Google’s flagship OS for mobile phones and yes indeed it is Open Source ! Here is the roadmap released by TmoToday what seems to be the release dates of T-Mobile’s android phones for us here in the states for 2009. I know a little late, but let us start writing our Santa Claus letters asking for one in our stockings. Or start saving those pennies we usually toss away because we here at Everything Linux think the upcoming phones will be costing a shiny penny! Let’s cross our fingers though…

KDE 4.2 Released

KDE 4.2 has officially been released to the public for mass download as well with the source code being available to be altered however the users heart desires. This release comes one year later after version 4.0 of the desktop environment was readily available. 4.2 has improved function with desktop visual effects and support. Users can come here to take a look and get more key information if you are thinking of switching or upgrading, we here at EVERYTHING LINUX say it is a must to at least try it out because we know once you try it, you won’t be able to stop using it. This is an EVERYTHING LINUX recommendation!
